‘Escape Bags’ are provided free of charge and are thoughtfully handmade with love by our dedicated volunteers. Each tote bag is then filled at our warehouse with essential items that individuals — and their children — may need when leaving a dangerous or abusive situation.

We carefully include high-quality products in every bag, recognising how important it is to feel supported, comforted, and valued during a crisis. Our ‘Escape Bags’ are not gender-specific, and we offer two variations — ‘Parent and Child’ and ‘Single Adult’ — to ensure we can support all survivors of abuse with dignity and care.

Important Suggestions to Consider

The safety of you and your family is paramount to us. Our ‘Escape Bags’ are unbranded; however, some of the contents inside contain information on domestic and family violence helplines and have some ‘Escabags’ branding. It is important to consider this if the perpetrator of the abuse can discover it within the family home.

It may be an idea to conceal it:

• with a neighbour, friend or relative.
• in a neighbours porch.
• in a work/gym locker.
• in your car, under a seat or spare tyre.
• in an outside bin.

These are suggestions only. Please assess your own risk and situation prior to taking a decision on where to store an ‘Escape Bag’.

Able to Plan your Escape?

If you are in a position to plan your escape, here are some suggestions that you may want to consider adding to your ‘Escape Bag’.

• A cheap Mobile Phone with a Prepaid Sim Card and Phone Charger.
• Important documents for you and your children i.e Birth Certificates, Driving Licence, Passports, Visas and Medicare Cards.
• Medication, Glasses, Contact Lenses and Prescriptions
• Emergency cash or Private Bank Card
• Public Transport Pass
• Names, Addresses and Phone Numbers of relatives, friends and other important helplines.
• Bottled Water
• Sentimental Items or Comfort Items belonging to your children i.e favourite Teddy Bear.
• A change of clothes for you and your children.
• Warm blankets.
